Dolly Parton, an iconic figure in the history of music, is preparing to launch her debut rock album, “Rockstar,” later this month, alongside her forthcoming book, “Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones.”
In a recent exclusive interview, I had the privilege of engaging in a one-on-one conversation with Dolly Parton, where we delved into her new book, album, and her life in general. Among the many questions I had, one that stood out was regarding Dollywood, the theme park she opened in 1986.
It’s not challenging to stumble upon photographs and videos of Dolly Parton participating in various special occasions and events at Dollywood. This leads one to ponder: does Dolly ever find time to enjoy a day of fun as a guest in her very own park?
During our conversation, I inquired if she and her husband, Carl, had ever considered temporarily closing the park to enjoy it as regular visitors. She revealed that they hadn’t done so yet but expressed a desire to do it for her entire family, including her siblings, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. However, she acknowledged the logistical challenges of this idea, given that people purchase season tickets and visitors come and go regularly, making it a complex endeavor.
True to her considerate nature, Dolly Parton places the concerns of season ticket holders at the forefront, contemplating the impact of a potential park closure. She mused, “We’d probably have to do it after hours, and that’d be too late to have any fun. So I guess we’ll just all go as we go and have our free passes and those special tickets for expedited access or front-of-the-line privileges. Although I’m not particularly inclined to jump ahead of others in line, even if it’s in my own park.”
One might assume that someone as renowned as Dolly Parton would never have to wait in line, especially at her own theme park. In a state of astonishment, I asked, “You would wait in line?”
To which she responded with humility, “Well, if I were going, I would. It would be rather absurd, wouldn’t it, for me to go ahead of anybody?”
She continued with a touch of humor, “But the good thing is, I don’t ride the rides anyway. So that works well for me. I have a built-in excuse there, didn’t I?”
Dolly Parton’s book, “Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones,” is set to be released on October 17th, while her album, “Rockstar,” is scheduled for release in November.
