Country music enthusiasts are accustomed to seeing Kelsea Ballerini as the host of the CMT Music Awards. However, on September 12, she will be crossing genres to perform at the 2023 VMAs.
Ballerini’s performance was announced on Thursday, and she will be sharing the stage with other artists such as Lil Wayne, Anitta, Doja Cat, and TOMORROW X TOGETHER. Previously announced performers include Demi Lovato, Karol G, Måneskin, and Stray Kids.
Make sure to tune in to the 2023 VMAs, which will be broadcast live from New Jersey’s Prudential Center on Tuesday, September 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
The leading nominees for the 2023 VMAs are as follows: Taylor Swift leads with eight nominations, closely followed by SZA with six. Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sam Smith each have five nominations, while BLACKPINK, Diddy, and Shakira have earned four nominations each.
In addition to her nominations, Shakira will be honored with MTV’s prestigious VIDEO VANGUARD AWARD and will perform live at the VMAs for the first time since 2006.
Fan voting for the 15 gender-neutral categories, including the highly-coveted “Video of the Year” presented by Burger King, will close on Friday. Voting for “Best New Artist” will remain active into the show. Nominations for social categories, such as “Group of the Year” and “Song of Summer” presented by M&M’S®, will be announced in the coming days.
