“Perry announced her departure from the singing competition show in February and has since hinted at a new phase in her music career.”

“After Katy Perry announced her departure from American Idol in February, Luke Bryan discussed potential replacements in a recent interview with Billboard. The country star mentioned Pink, Miley Cyrus, and Meghan Trainor as names that have been considered to fill Perry’s role as a judge on the popular ABC singing competition. Bryan also mentioned uncertainty about the return of himself, Lionel Richie, and Ryan Seacrest, as Disney determines the show’s future direction.”

“Bryan, who joined American Idol as a judge alongside Perry and Richie in season 16, emphasized in his interview with Billboard that Perry was exceptionally suited for her role and that finding a replacement won’t be easy.

“I think they’re really working hard to find someone who can step in and fill Katy’s shoes,” he said.

In a June 12 interview on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Trainor expressed her enthusiasm about potentially replacing Perry as a judge.

“I’ve talked about it in many interviews—it’s my dream job,” the 30-year-old singer shared. “I’ve reached out to some great people in that world. I’ve practically begged for the job,” she added. “I haven’t received any updates, so check my emails, but it’s my dream job. I want to drive to American Idol and then drive home afterward.”

“In June, Kelly Clarkson, the inaugural winner of the show, dismissed the idea of returning to American Idol as a judge during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

“No, no, I can’t do that, because I promised my kids,” Clarkson said regarding replacing Perry. “I want to be there for them as much as possible, and it would mean being in L.A.”

The “Piece by Piece” singer elaborated that she departed her coaching role on The Voice in 2023 for the same family-oriented reasons.

Since leaving the singing competition, Perry has announced the upcoming release of her new single, “Woman’s World,” scheduled for July 11. This track will serve as the lead single from her sixth studio album, the details of which are yet to be disclosed.”
